CPS, AIA Chicago, CWA and INOMA have partnered with Mattel, IIT and UIC to host a “Barbie I Can Be…Architect” Workshop for 3rd graders.
Girls will have the unique opportunity to learn from a real architect about what it takes to become an architect in a fun and educational environment. Girls will learn about the first female architect recognized by the AIA over 125 years ago and will get to ‘create’ their very own Dream House. All participants in the workshop will leave with a gift bag including their own Architect Barbie.

Volunteers:

Female architects, interns, and architecture students are needed to help conduct these hands-on sessions and engage with the girls. The time commitment will be about 3 hours. Leaders will work with groups of up to 10 girls and guide them in a design exercise to develop their own dream house. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce girls to the profession of architecture and the value of the built environment, and to show them that they, too, can be an architect. You will also earn 2 LU’s for community service that may be self reported.
