Architecture + Youth Event
Crown Hall, IIT
March 25, 2014 – 10a – 12p
In partnership with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department of CPS has created an event targeted at introducing the world of Architecture to prospective high school students through a unique design experience!
IIT faculty and professional architects will facilitate the design and planning process. Student groups will be given sections of the historic State Street that runs through the IIT campus and get a chance to design their blocks in their own vision, including commercial, residential and recreational areas. These sections will be built out on models and brought together to create a full-scale model of a student-designed area of Chicago!
This experience will take place at the historic Crown Hall and will also include a tour of the facility and lunch provided by CTE. We’ll also provide giveaways to help our future architects continue their work!
5 volunteers are needed to help guide the students in their reimaging of State State. Volunteers should expect to day to begin at 9:30 and end around 12:30.
Please contact Allison Freedland at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer or with questions.
